WOW! Time sure flies when you are having fun (or working really hard)!
Today marks 11 months since the planning began to launch the Ivori Nicole website. I am excited with the overall outcome, but trust me, this did not happen overnight. My team and I worked hard (we literally burned the midnight oil) to flesh out my design needs from top to bottom to ensure a satisfying user experience. I learned so much along the way. Now, that the site has launched, I want to share what I learned with you. Here are my top five lessons learned while launching my new site and venture.
Trust the process. Think about who you want to handle your project and trust that with your guidance, your vision will come to life.
Know your limitations. Listen. You may know what you want, but you cannot do it all! Although business writing is my strong suit, creative writing wasn’t. So, without hesitation, I called on an expert.
Be flexible. Make no mistake, your timeline will indeed shift. It helps to be flexible on the launch date. After all, you want an amazing finished product, not something that you will need to update in a month.
Communicate. Don’t be afraid to share your design ideas. If you don’t, how will your design team know what you want? Be honest and admit if the design isn’t going in the direction you envisioned. Insist on update meetings (in-person or via conference calls) to actually discuss each step. Email is great, but you want to make sure that everyone is on the same page, as things can easily get lost in translation.
Review. I can’t say this enough: review, review, and review again! Yes, the site is more amazingly beautiful than you imagined and you keep reading things the way they should be. Even then, there may be some errors. Help yourself by
allowing someone else to look it over. Having that extra set of eyes will save you time (and money) fixing after launch.
It is my hope that my five lessons learned will aid you on your next website launch.
